Social freezing
Egg freezing involves storing a woman’s unfertilized eggs to preserve the option of having children in the future, especially when natural conception may be unlikely. This method is particularly beneficial for women undergoing medical treatments that may affect their fertility, those concerned about age-related fertility decline, or those at risk of premature menopause or conditions affecting the ovaries.
The most effective method for freezing eggs is called vitrification. This rapid technique has been shown to successfully preserve eggs without significant deterioration. It’s important to note that success rates for frozen eggs are influenced by the woman’s age at the time of freezing and the number and quality of eggs stored. Generally, the younger a woman is when she freezes her eggs and the higher the quality of the eggs stored, the better the chance of achieving a successful pregnancy later on.

Delayed Motherhood: Preserving Fertility for the Future
Modern women are increasingly postponing childbirth due to career goals, personal circumstances, or the desire to wait for the perfect moment for motherhood. Egg freezing for the future is an effective way to preserve reproductive potential, giving women more freedom in choosing the right time to start a family.
What is Egg Cryopreservation?
Egg cryopreservation is a technology that allows women to freeze their own eggs for future use. The procedure involves ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval, freezing through vitrification (a rapid freezing method), and storage in specialized cryobanks.
This method enables women to preserve high-quality genetic material at a younger age, allowing them to use it later when they are ready for motherhood.
Who is suitable for egg freezing in the future?
- Women who plan to postpone motherhood due to career development, personal reasons, or the desire to find a suitable partner.
- Patients with medical conditions, in particular before cancer treatment that may affect reproductive function.
- Women with a reduced ovarian reserve or risk of premature menopause who want to ensure a chance for biological motherhood in the future.
- Patients undergoing IVF who want to preserve their remaining eggs for subsequent attempts.
How Does the Procedure “Social freezing” Work?
- Initial Consultation with a Reproductive Specialist. During this stage, the doctor conducts a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s reproductive health. The possibilities and prospects of delayed motherhood are discussed, and the indications for the procedure are determined. The focus is placed on tests that help evaluate ovarian reserve:
- Blood test for Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) levels — the main indicator of the egg reserve.
- Hormone level tests for FSH, LH, estradiol, and other hormones.
- Ultrasound examination of the ovaries to assess the number of antral follicles.
The doctor explains all the stages of the procedure and helps determine the optimal age for egg cryopreservation to preserve the highest quality eggs for future use.
- Ovarian Stimulation. To obtain the maximum number of mature eggs, hormonal stimulation is used. The patient is prescribed injections of hormonal medications that stimulate follicle growth in the ovaries.
For 10–12 days, regular monitoring is performed using ultrasound and hormone level tests to determine the optimal time for egg retrieval. Once the follicles reach the required size, a final trigger injection is given to induce ovulation, and egg retrieval (puncture) is performed 36 hours later.
- Egg collection (puncture). The puncture procedure is performed under light intravenous anesthesia to make it comfortable and painless for the patient. A special thin needle is used, which is inserted through the vaginal wall under ultrasound control. The procedure lasts only 10-15 minutes, after which the patient remains under medical supervision for several hours. The obtained eggs are immediately transferred to the embryology laboratory for preparation for freezing.
- Vitrification (Fast Freezing of Oocytes). The vitrification method allows the freezing of oocytes without the formation of ice crystals, ensuring maximum preservation of their structure and viability. This is a modern and safe technique used in all leading reproductive medicine clinics. The collected oocytes are immersed in special cryoprotectants, after which they are rapidly cooled to a temperature of -196°C in liquid nitrogen. In this state, they can be stored indefinitely without losing quality.
- Long-Term Storage in a Cryobank. Frozen oocytes are stored in a specialized cryobank, where ideal conditions are maintained for their safety. Research has shown that oocytes can remain frozen for decades without losing their properties. When a woman is ready for motherhood, her oocytes are thawed and fertilized using ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection), after which the resulting embryos are transferred into the uterus.
Why You Should Do It Now:
Age is a key factor in reproductive medicine. Freezing eggs for the future at a young age increases the chances of a successful pregnancy in the future, even if natural fertility decreases. It is a smart choice for women who want to preserve their reproductive capabilities without the rush and pressure of time. If you want to preserve your fertility and leave the possibility of becoming a mother at the most convenient time for you, sign up for a consultation at Ovumia Alternatyva Group.
